At a Loss

I haven't blogged for a few weeks. I guess I just am at a loss for words. It has been 10 days since any dolphins have been driven into the cove. Which is a very nice and welcome relief. But I will never be truly relieved until the killing stops. I think about all the dolphins that have lost there lives already and the ones taken for a miserable life in captivity. I will continue to fight and raise awareness. I know that it is easy to relax and enjoy the days when there are no dolphins being murdered, but on those days we need to continue to make phone calls, write emails and continue to spread the word. We never want them to think for a second that we have forgotten.

In recent discovery the cove guardians have found a secluded pool and hidden behind a tall fence holding 1 lonely dolphin. We all believe this dolphin was left in this pool to die a slow and painful death. My guess is that it either won't preform for them or it has became ill and they don't want to spend the time and energy on saving it.

In this video they show you all the contact Info: for the Dolphin base. Please call and e-mail. I plan to send a letter every hour today.

I believe there is a special place in hell for people who torture, abuse and neglect animals.

There has been a lot said on how the cove guardians are handling things. People are angry that they don't do more to rescue the dolphins. Or questions on why they haven't cut the nets.
I would first like to say if you think you could do a better job, THEN GO THERE! Quit blabbing your mouths and do something. I love how people sit at there computer and talk shit about the way things are being done.
I support 100% how the cove guardians are handling things. If we go to Japan and break the law then what good does that do. The laws have to change there in order for these atrocities to stop. Going there an causing trouble will only make things worse. So in stead of judging try being supportive. After all we are all on the same team.

I would like to end this by Thanking all the people who have donated money for my trip.
Thank you to My family for being so supportive.
Thank you to all my wonderful new friends that I have met along the way.
Thank you to the Guardians who spent the Holidays away from there family and friends.
And Thank you to all that make phone calls, write letters, protest, and that continue to spread awareness.

The words of My beautiful Mother Inlaw

I have asked some people to write a post for my blog. And when I asked my Mother In law she was happy to do so. When I received this letter in my inbox I was immediately put in tears. Her kind words and encouragement means the world to me. So hear it is. Thank you Tresa so much.

Most people have heard of Jane Goodall and her study of chimpanzees or Bob Barker who resigned as host of the Miss USA Pageants when they refused to stop awarding furs as prizes or Mary Tyler Moore and her work as an animal rights activist. Those are names we recognize, but have you heard about Kim Bartlett, Steve Hindi or Tammy Sneath Grimes? They are just three of the thousands of lesser known people, maybe more like you and me, who, at some point in their lives, made the decision that they were going to do their best to make a difference in the world. And then they actually did it!

LeAnn has been shaken by the horror of what is happening to dolphins on the other side of the world and has made the decision that she, too, will do her best to make a difference in the world. She intends to take time away from her family, spend hours traveling to a foreign country, live in who-knows-what kind of conditions to help guard a tiny little piece of the world and be a presence to the men who are performing these atrocities in an effort to save the lives of a few dolphins. Sounds like a lot of effort for little reward, doesn’t it? I’m sure that’s the attitude of most people. I think most would like to help, but we don’t know how or we feel any effort would be too puny. When we’re shown injustices, we think about it for a while and wish we could find the time or the money or the fill-in-the-blank to help, but then we go back to our lives and eventually we’ve pushed it to the back of our minds and that’s the end of it.

What might be just a fleeting thought to some has become a mission to LeAnn. And don’t underestimate her determination or her passion. She is and will continue to make a difference in the world. She’s opened the minds and the hearts of everyone she’s come in contact with over the past several months. She’s spent hours learning and then sharing what she’s learned with anyone who will listen. She’s planning fund raisers, writing a blog and keeping current with news from the cove, all while running a household, being an incredible partner to her husband and an amazing mommy to their three-year-old triplets!

I feel honored to know LeAnn just because of the extraordinary human being that she is. I’m even more honored to call her my daughter-in-law and the mother of my grandchildren. I believe LeAnn will make this trip to Taiji, Japan and she will leave her mark on that cove. But even if she never leaves the country and even if most people don’t recognize her name, she has, and continues, to make a difference in the world. In my world, in the world of everyone she shares her passion with, and in the world of her children, my grandchildren, who will grow up knowing that one person can make a difference!

And as for the dolphins in the cove being slaughtered and our seeming ability to do so little, remember the story of the starfish:

The Starfish Story

While walking along a beach, an elderly gentleman saw someone in the distance leaning down, picking something up and throwing it into the ocean.

As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man, picking up starfish one by one and tossing each one gently back into the water.

He came closer still and called out, "Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?"

The young man paused, looked up, and replied "Throwing starfish into the ocean."

The old man smiled, and said, "I must ask, then, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?"

To this, the young man replied, "The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don't throw them in, they'll die."

Upon hearing this, the elderly observer commented, "But, young man, do you not realize that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile? You can't possibly make a difference!"

The young man listened politely. Then he bent down, picked up another starfish, threw it into the back into the ocean past the breaking waves and said, "It made a difference for that one."

*****************************************************************************************************

This story has been circulated around the web in many versions, usually with no mention of author. It is said to be paraphrased from "The Star Thrower" by Loren Eiseley, 1907 - 1977.

Won’t you join us in supporting this exceptional woman who is making a difference? Even a dollar helps and it’s a wonderful feeling to know you’ve done your part to make a difference!

And just so you know . . .

Kim Bartlett and Merritt Clifton

Publisher and editor, of "Animal People", the most widely read newspaper dealing exclusively with animal protection issues since 1992. Kim was previously the editor of "Animals' Agenda”, a now-defunct animal protection publication. She began as a volunteer dog rescuer, fundraiser and humane educator. Her husband Merritt Clifton founded “Animal People” with Kim. He writes over 200 articles for the publication a year and is an ex-news reporter, columnist and foreign correspondent who decided to specialize in animal and environmental issues. Clifton is a second-generation vegetarian.

Tammy Sneath Grimes

Founder and executive director of Dogs Deserve Better, a nonprofit focused on ending the cruel chaining and penning of dogs and incorporating them into the family unit. An artist and assistant web manager for “Animal People”. Grimes was arrested in 2006 for rescuing a chained, sickly dog in Pennsylvania named Doogie. Her trial is pending.

Steve Hindi

Former hunter who saw the light and founded Showing Animals Respect and Kindness (SHARK) in 1993 in reaction to the cruel Hegins pigeon shoot in Pennsylvania, in which thousands of birds were slaughtered by both adults and children for prizes. Through SHARK, he has expanded his interest in animal protection issues to horse tripping, canned hunting, rodeos, bullfighting, and domestic animal cruelty cases. Hindi often travels across the country on his Tiger Truck, equipped with four outside video screens, to bring graphic images of animal abuse to the public and let them know what they can do to stop it.

I just Don't understand

I just can't fathom the fact that people kill other sentient creatures. Everyday I wake up and think, Is this the day that everything changes. Whether it be good or bad. What if every single person woke up and opened there eyes, and decided to make a change for the better.

Before I had children I never once worried about my future, Now all I can do is worry about my kids future. I watch videos and read articles and I am sickened by it all. I always new these horrible things happened, but I chose to ignore it like so many do. It never bothered me. I went on with my day like my world was perfect. Now that I have seen it, there is no way I can turn my back on it.

The number 1 question I ask my self is, What is this beautiful place called Planet earth going to be like in 50 years. I am not a religious person, but If God created all creatures, then he meant for us to live at peace with one another RIGHT? Its all so very confusing to me, I just don't understand. I have come to be a strong believer that every Man, Animal, Mammal etc.... should live there lives with love, happiness & freedom. And from there the Circle of life will lead us correctly in the right direction. If that makes any since.

I have this unbelievable feeling to want to save anything and everything I can. But the truth is that is unrealistic. But I can make a difference and I will make a difference. There are so many people that ignore things that truly bother them. Whether it be animal abuse, pollution, child abuse and so much more. Can you imagine if everyone stood up for what they believed in, If everyone decided that today is the day they are going to make a difference. If everyone woke up and said today I am going to start Recycling, Rescue and animal, ride my bike to work, donate to a charity or simply pay it forward in some way or another. Every decision you make effects something or someone somehow.

I ask you this. What is your passion? Have you found it yet? If you have what are you doing about it?

Molesters at work

Discust

Yesterday a huge FAMILY of dolphins were driven into the cove. Its always tense and devastating as read my facebook to find out the updates from Taiji. There were a few days that dolphins were not in the cove. I think everyone needed those few days to refuel. As soon as I heard that they were driving in a very large family I started writing E-mails and I made some phone calls as I always do. When I call the Denver Consulate I always speak with a person first then they send me to a voicemail. I ask the gentleman what his thoughts were on the murders in Taiji, He said "I'm not at liberty to say, But I understand where your coming from". Then I asked him if he was from Japan. His answer was No I just work here. I told him some facts and my thoughts and then let him send me to voicemail. I was taken back because the voice mails message was.

If you are calling in regards to the Dolphin hunt in Taiji please leave you name and number. If you are not a Colorado resident your calls will be screened out.

I am glad that an actual person answers the phone, which gave me the opportunity to voice my concerns/opinions. I am also glad that they are receiving so many calls that they felt they had to dedicate a line for us. Although I still feel its there way of not dealing with us either.

I went to bed last night with a heavy heart. When things like this happen its just makes me that much more determined to reach my goal. Then I woke up to find this horribly sad video that a cove guardian name Martyn took. You can feel his emotion, and it immediately put me in tears.

This video will be in the next post, I am having a hard time embedding it.

Please also consider donating. There are so many who can find the time to go, I have the time Just trying to raise the money to be able to go. I would love to answer questions or even have a phone conversation with anyone who is skeptical about donating. My E-mail is neyney23@comcast.net feel free to email me anytime.

Change

Never in a million years did I think watching a documentary could change my life.
Ever since watching The Cove, My outlook on life has changed dramatically for the better. I used to wake up in the morning and worry if my crops on farmville are ready, or what news am I going to read on TMZ today. Now I wake up wondering what more can I do to make a impact today, or what else can I do to help people understand what is truly happening in this world. I know longer worry about farmville, TMZ or all the other small things. I am slowly learning the VERY sad and disturbing truth about the world we live in.

I recently became a vegetarian, and to be honest it hasn't really been that hard to leave meat in my past. I have only had a few moments where its been a struggle, but there are to many reminders out there that keep me on track. I can honestly say that I will never go back and that I am completely happy with my decision. If you ever feel that your on the fence about becoming vegetarian or vegan, I suggest watching the documentary EARTHLINGS
EARTHLINGS is a powerful and informative documentary about society’s treatment of animals, narrated by Joaquin Phoenix with soundtrack by Moby. This multi-award winning film by Nation Earth is a must-see for anyone who cares about animals or wishes to make the world a better place.

But I just want to warn you, It is very graphic. It took me a week to watch it and I cried through the entire thing.

I am a huge lover of all animals, I have even joked with my husband he better watch out if we won the lottery we would live on a huge farm with all kinds of animals that we have rescued. I would give anything to be able to rescue animals and keep them safe from anything that would harm them.

Sometimes I think it would be easier to not care. It would be a lot less painful, but that's just not who I am.

Yesterday in Taiji a huge family of dolphins were being driven into the cove. Half of that family were able to get away and the other half were murdered. It makes me wonder will the half that got away be captured tomorrow because they would leave there family behind? Every day it gets harder and harder to sit here and read the updates. I will continue to call and write letters to the embassies, and I will continue to spread the word. Nothing will make me give up this fight!
I know there are many people who wish to go to Taiji, but either don't have the time or money to go. Well I have the time and just not the money. SO PLEASE if you have the money and no time, PLEASE consider donating, Every dollar helps.

Just for the Record

There has been so much drama on all the sights I visit that I just wanted to talk about it here. I am not going to justify to anyone why I am doing this, and I am not going to respond to trolls and there ignorance. I don't care what people think nor do I care if people want to think I'm a racist. What matters to me is what our futures hold and the dolphins that have to suffer everyday in captivity and the ones that are murdered. I chose to take a stand for what I believe in, and if that means accepting criticism then I am OK with that.
I have met some great people, who have a wonderful hearts and feel the same way that most of us do. But please do not respond to these trolls. You are only fueling there fire. They have nothing better to do then make the world a worse place then it already is. I refuse to buy into them or let them get me angry. We cannot make everyone believe this is wrong or make anyone change there mind.
As most of you know I have a facebook page and luckily I have had no drama on it. I am sure its only a matter of time before there is but I assure you. It will not be tolerated I will delete and block all negative people and posts.
I have to focus on getting the word out there and raising the money to make this trip. I cannot focus my energy on anything beyond that.

Please take a moment and pass my blog along. Donate a dollar if that's all you can, Call or write the embassies and say a prayer for the wonderful Cove Guardians in Taiji.

Some Good News and Some Bad News

I always hate starting something off with bad news. There are 50+ dolphins in the killing cove as I type this. According to Elora there are a TON of babies. I can't even begin to describe how I feel when this happens. Anger, Disgust, Sad, I honestly feel like I am having a bad dream and I can't wake up. Please take a moment and visit my Facebook page Notes. This is a list of Address's and a great letter to send to the Japanese embassies. COPY/PASTE/SEND. I assure you every phone call and email is working. These horrible men are feeling the pressure and are working much harder to hide there horrible acts. "I believe in the power that comes, When we all work together as one."

I have been seeing a lot of negative comments on numerous different support pages about people being racist or saying hateful things. I just want to say this is not about race. This is about a handful of men giving Japan a horrible name. I don't understand why the Government of Japan allows this. Is having a blood stain on there country worth protecting these men. These beautiful, magnificent, and amazingly intelligent beings do not belong to you Japan. As a matter of fact they don't belong to anyone. Our jobs as the human race is to protect and preserve this beautiful place we call Earth. But instead we are killing it slowly but surely. What does our future look like? I wish there was some way to look into the future and see what this world is like. I can almost guarantee if we continue this destruction there will be nothing beautiful left, if anything at all!

OK now for my good news. About a week ago I wrote a letter to the biggest news station in the city I live in. Today I got a phone call from a very nice woman from this station and they would love to do a story on my journey. I WANTED TO SCREAM AAAAHH!! I was so excited. I was so excited that thousands of people that don't know about this will now know. After watching The Cove I decided that I wanted to be a voice for these dolphins. I feel that I am accomplishing that. I have had an overwhelming amount of support from, Family, Friends and Strangers. All this support means the world to me. It gives me the fuel I need to keep going. And to all my supporters I will not let you down.

From the words of Another

My dearest friend Kira wrote a post for my blog. She will be taken this journey with me to Taiji.

I am in shock right now over the controversy that the anti whaling movement is subjected too. I myself over the past few hours have been called a "racist"... I was also told that I have a "cult" mentality. Why? I believe that the human race in ruining the oceans... I believe that dolphins are sentient creatures that deserve our protection. Does that mean that I am racist against the Japanese because their country still hunts Dolphins? ABSOLUTELY NOT!! I believe that knowledge is powerful; and I truly hope that if the fishermen knew what these animals were capable of.. if they knew the dolphin meat that they are feeding their children is poisoning them... that they would stop the hunt. I understand that TaiJi Japan is a country of little resource. That part of the reason they practice this horror is because they are trying to earn a living to provide for their families. That is why we MUST start with government! Bashing and name calling is going to get us no where.... FAST. I urge all activists to stay consistent, sign the petitions; call the embassies... and spread the word to your family and friends. Don't give up. It is going to be a long journey... and it will be worth it! We need more people on the ground.. DONATE if you can... WE ARE GOING TO TAIJI AND WE WILL BE HEARD! Our presence will be felt and we are MAKING A DIFFERENCE! Our children will thank us :)

Looking Back

Looking back at my years growing up. I come to realize how naive I truely was.
One moment in peticular was when My family and I visited Sea World. I was roughly 10 years old and I remember standing at this big round pool with a lot of dolphins swimming in a circle. I remember what a thrill it was for me to touch one. There were lots of people touching them. That was the purpose of this pool. People could purchase food and feed them, touch them and have the experience of being so close to them. Now that I look back I am very saddened by this memory. I know back then it wasn't a big deal. People we not educated on the price these dolphins had to pay to be there for our pleasure.

During the Shamu show I remember thinking what a cool job. To be a trainer and work with these animals daily would be amazing. Swimming with them, feeding them and teaching them new tricks. Wow now that I look back, What sad thoughts. I have now made a promise to make sure my children grow up knowing the consequences these animals have to pay just for our pleasure.

I will not give up this fight. I know deep down that this will change. Hopefully sooner then later. I think about all these amazingly intelligent beings having to bare witness to the kidnapping and murdering of there family. What it would be like to watch this. The pain they must feel. I personally would want to die if someone murdered my family. How can these men and women murder on a daily basis and not feel shame. Its truely depressing knowing that I am among this race. What really kills me is they say these mammals are not endangered So what lets just keep killing them until they are. Then what?

Please pass this blog along to all your family, friends and neighbors. Help educate people, Help them understand that this is not right.

Just Some Thoughts

Today there was blood in The Cove again. Each and every time this happens makes me that much more motivated to reach my goal.

The last few times these greedy bastards drove dolphins into the cove they have killed immediately. I personally believe its because of every ones phone calls and letters. Once they are killed the phone calls probably stop until the next time they kill. We should continue to call and write whether there is dolphins in the cove or not. KEEP THE PRESSURE on the Japanese government. Don't let them believe for a second that we have given up. Every time you think of Dolphins or the cove send a letter and call.

"They are to the oceans,What we are to the land"

I believe there is hope for our future. As long as we continue to educate and have faith.

Please follow me on Facebook

MIA for a few days

Sorry that I haven't posted in a few days. Our internet has been down..

I recently start my own Facebook page So please like it and share this with your friends so they will join.

The only positive thing that comes from this horror is the wonderful people I am meeting along the way. All the support people show one another and the passion people share for these amazing creatures and the oceans is astounding.

This post is short but i would like to end it with a video Elora took of her and Tarah questioning private space and a young fisherman. I love the way they conduct themselves.

Emotionally Straining

This past week in Taiji has been horrible. I just want to break it down for you.

*November 4th roughly 140 dolphins driven into the cove.
*November 5th 36 dolphins and 1 baby kidnapped from there family to live a life of slavery.
*November 6th 19 more dolphins were taken for life of slavery. And 24-30 were slaughtered. roughly 40 were releases without there family
*November 7th 100 more dolphins driven into the cove.
*November 8th 8 dolphins taken for a life of slavery. 2 dolphins drowned due to being held under water by these so called trainers and unknown number were slaughtered and roughly 40 were releases. When they released the survivors 2 babies were swimming around in blood looking for there mothers. They would not leave so the men slaughtered them to.

I am just sickened and my heart breaks for these highly intelligent beings. They are morning the loss of over half there family and forced to leave them all behind.
I can only imagine what they are feeling. These non human persons just witnessed so much horror and were in fear for days.

I know there are so many out there that wish they could do something to help. The Japanese goverment are feeling the preasure from around the world. All the phone calls and letters are working so read my previous blog on how you can help to get the info to call or write.
ALSO PLEASE HIT THE DONATE BUTTON AT THE TOP OF THIS SCREEN help me get to Taiji.
I promise to my dying day that when I am there these fisherman will have nightmares about my voice. It will be a sound that hunts them for life. Every dollar counts!!!

One of the most Horrific Sounds

This short clip was taken by Tarah she is in Taiji. These are the cries of dolphins. Stressed and scared. I was in immediate tears listening to this.

The past 3 days have been absolute hell for the Dolphins in Taiji. Approximately 140 taken prisoner; 56 consigned to slavery, 24 to 30 slaughtered, and about 54 released. This means that fewer than 40% of this thriving complex family unit survived.

I feel RAGE!!!!!!

Fathers, Mothers, Brothers, Sisters, Sons and Daughter etc.... Are all being seperated for greed.

2 days ago in Taiji from my understanding over 100 dolphins were chased into the cove. The next day trainers (mostly women) came, and started picking out dolphins so that they could live a miserable life in captivity. I don't get it, do these women not have children. I don't understand how they could seperate a huge family and not feel shame at all. Each dolphin can be sold for roughly 300,000. These trainers took 36 and 1 baby so thats 11,100,000. I am sickened, saddened and most of all SOOOO Angry. A few died dew to stress, a few were let go and there are still over 100 in the cove awaiting there fate in the cove.

It is VERY important that we do not support these theme parks and swim with dolphin programs. These programs are exactly what keeps these fisherman kidknapping and killing.

FACTS ABOUT DOLPHINS IN CAPTIVITY:

53% of those dolphins who survive the violent capture die within 90 days.

The average life span of a dolphin in the wild is 45 years; yet half of all captured dolphins die within their first two years of captivity. The survivors last an average of only 5 years in captivity.

Every seven years, half of all dolphins in captivity die from capture shock, pneumonia, intestinal disease, ulcers, chlorine poisoning, and other stress-related illnesses. To the captive dolphin industry, these facts are accepted as routine operating expenses.

In many tanks the water is full of chemicals as well as bacteria, causing many health problems in dolphins including blindness.

When a baby dolphin is born in captivity, the news is usually kept secret until the calf shows signs of survival. Although marine mammals do breed in captivity, the birth rate is not nearly as successful as the one in the wild, with high infant mortality rates.

Wild dolphins can swim 40 to 100 miles per day - in pools they go around in circles.

Many marine parks subject their mammals to hunger so they will perform for their food. Jumping through hoops, tailwalking and playing ball are trained behaviors that do not occur in the wild.

Confined animals who abuse themselves (banging their heads against the walls) are creating stimuli which their environment cannot supply. Dolphins in captivity tend to develop stereotypical behaviors (swimming in a repetitive circle pattern, with eyes closed and in silence) because of boredom and confinement. This is equivalent to the swaying and pacing of primates, lions, tigers and bears confined in cages.

Dolphins are predators of fish and spend up to half of their time in the wild hunting for food. Supplying dead fish results in less exercise and lack of mental stimulation, thus causing boredom.

When trapped together, males often become agitated and domineering. This creates pecking orders (unknown in the wild) and unprovoked attacks on each other and the trainers. In the ocean, although fights are not unknown, the wild dolphins have a chance to escape.

Responsibility

There are roughly 50 dolphins in The Cove as I type this. My heart weighs heavy like it always does when I find out dolphins are in The Cove. I always find myself scrambling for words on days like this. I sat down last night and wrote many letters to the embassies and today I will call. I ran across a great letter to copy and send to the embassies. I was given permission to post it on my blog. I will post it at the bottom of this post. So please COPY/PASTE/SEND I also have a list of many Japanese embassies and if you would like it please leave a comment with your email address.

If your reading this I want you to imagine Fathers, Mothers (swimming with there babies)Sons, Daughters, Brothers, Sisters. Imagine that your one of them.A huge family living peacefully together.
Then I want you to imagine monsters come along chase you into confinement, leave you there for a day scared to death. And then kidnap a family member or members and after that horror they stab each one of your family members including you. You watch each one of your family members bleeding to death. Your laying in there blood and who knows how long it will take you to die.

Some people think that this is not our battle. Think about this...we live in a symbiotic relationship with all that surrounds us. We as people share this beautiful earth we live on. So when one country is effecting the rest of the world it is our RESPONSIBILITY to put a stop to it.

I have a voice and I have chosen to use it. Why don't you?

Japan claims this is tradition:
The Oikomi drive only started in 1972. Before that dolphins were not hunted in an organized way. This is no tradition, this is money making and selling of mercury tainted meat to unsuspecting Japanese and our (Japanese) Gov't accepting the poisoning of people.

THE LETTER:
Be lauded by exhibiting one of the greatest virtues – Mercy
...Dear Reader of this message and proud citizen of Japan,

I thank you sincerely for taking the time to read this message.

I understand that every culture is different. I have gained a great admiration for Japan and the Japanese culture and history through many years of Asian studies and time spent in Asia.

I would like to respectfully ask that you end the Dolphin killings in Taiji. I understand that this is part of your culture. However, as the world shrinks, Taiji has become the focal point for millions of people all over the world. For many, this is the only thing they know about Japan. I know your astounding culture and history and do not want for people to think that Japan is only famous for killing dolphins.

There are two more reasons I would like for you to consider.

1) The emotional attachment and meaning of dolphins in many cultures across the planet. Dolphins are the symbol of hope, healing, joy and intelligence in many cultures. By killing them, the spirit of these cultures is damaged. We all need hope. I respectfully request that you allow the many millions of people to preserve their hope and spirit by not killing dolphins.

2) Animal cruelty is an issue across the entire planet. I have seen too many people devastated by the Taiji dolphin killings. They are so demoralized that they cannot see the cruelty that is done to animals in their country, city and neighborhood. Innocent and magnificent animals' lives are ended by men's hand by the thousands every minute across the world in animal shelters, bull fights, cock fights, dog fights and other unspeakable animal cruelty. Animals that have great capacity to teach humans about kindness, dedication, grace and compassion lose their lives every minute for nothing. The fishermen in Taiji are no more responsible than the farmers breeding magnificent bulls whose only destiny is to be killed in a grueling and unfair fight. Taiji happens to be in the limelight more than any other animal cruelty. Please allow the fishermen of Taiji to gain another income so the world can refocus on righting cruelty across the world.

By stopping the killings of a few innocent and beautiful animals, you can bring about change for this world that is far greater than the impact that a lifeless body of a dolphin baby in Taji could ever have.

Your power in this endeavor today is far greater than the power of most any country, regardless of size, money and power. As a result, your choices will have far greater implications on all of our futures. Whenever and wherever we take the time to listen, nature is showing us ways to create a better future for our offspring, future and planet.

I respectfully invite you to join this journey. The impact of your choices will cause shifts for your unborn generations as much as for mine.

I thank you for your time, thought and deliberation and remain respectfully yours, <<

When will we stop?

So over the past few days I have been learning a lot more about how we as humans are destroying the oceans. I admit I was very naive. I just wanted to share with others what I have learned in the hopes that other people will discover what I have. I know that not everyone finds a passion in these sort of things, but I believe everyone could learn something from it..

So lets start by Shark finning.
100 million sharks are killed every year!

What is Shark Finning?
•Shark finning refers to the removal and retention of shark fins and the discard at sea of the carcass. The shark is most often still alive when it is tossed back into the water. Unable to swim, the shark slowly sinks toward the bottom where it is eaten alive by other fish.

Faroe Islands Pilot whale massacre
Every year hundreds to thousands of pilot whales are driven into a bay where men slash, stab and slice them to death. The unborn are cut from there mothers.

The Dall's porpoiseI always knew that roughly 20,000 cetacean were slaughter each year in Japan. Taiji only kills roughly 2,000. Recently I learned about the Dall's Porpoise.

The Dall’s porpoise is a stocky black and white cetacean found throughout the northern Pacific and adjacent seas. It is the target of the largest hunt of any whale, dolphin or porpoise species in the world, and has been for more than a quarter of a century.

Large scale hunting of Dall’s porpoises has taken place in Japanese waters for around 50 years. The average annual kill was between 5-10,000 animals during the 1960-70’s, however this shot up to over 40,000 animals after the International Whaling Commission (IWC) implemented its ban on commercial whaling. The ban saved many whale species from certain extinction, but unwittingly resulted in a new hunting threat to Dall’s porpoises when Japan’s whaling companies began to use Dall’s porpoise meat to replace the minke whales they were no longer allowed to hunt. Dall’s porpoises were also traded to the south of Japan where over-hunting of striped dolphins had left a demand for dolphin-type meat.

Today around 15,000 Dall’s porpoises are killed each year in a hand harpoon hunt that has been repeatedly described by the IWC’s Scientific Committee as “clearly unsustainable”.

Harp Seals
Every year, when the time is "right" (as soon as the ice conditions permit and the seal pups start shedding their fuzzy white coats), about 2,000 to 6,000 Canadian fishermen (most of European descent and most living in Newfoundland and the Magdalen Islands of Quebec), find their way to the floes and proceed to club, bludgeon, shoot, and skin hundreds of thousands of harp seals, most just a few weeks to a few months old.

This year the quota is roughly 390,000

Whaling
In 1986 a moratorium was made to protect the whales. But Japan and other Countries have found there ways around it claiming they are doing research.
•In fact, more than 25,000 whales have been killed since the Moratorium was supposed to come into force.

Sea Turtles
Sea turtle consumption dates back millennia to a time when sea turtles abounded. Coastal communities rely on sea turtles as protein sources. Other societies serve sea turtle dishes as delicacies. Sea turtle meat is used in some religious ceremonies, and their bones, skin, and shells are used to provide non-food commodities, such as oil, leather, jewelry, and ornaments.

Even sea turtle eggs are prized and illegally collected. Vulnerable and often unprotected, they are scooped from nesting beaches and sold on the black market as medicines.

The list goes on. I hope that everyone takes the time to educate themselves and other people. The Oceans are nearly 71% of our Earth. If we don't start protecting them now, Then what does the future hold.

Sometimes

Sometimes I wish I could be like A LOT of people and act like horrible things never happen. But its not in my nature. When something effects me, It effects me to the core. After watching The Cove I have done a ton of research, watched a lot of videos and have cried many tears. What happens in Taiji is horrific, Disgusting and sad. But the sad part is this is just a small fraction of the inhumane ways animals of ALL kinds are treated and killed. I have learned so much in these past few months that it makes me sick to be apart of the human species.

Don't get me wrong I understand the circle of life. We are all part of the food chain. But what bothers me is when animals are being murdered and skinned alive for the luxury of a fur coat, snake skin boots and handbags. It doesn't just bother me it makes me sick and pisses me off. You don't see animals being that cruel to other species and yes SOME animals have been known to attack humans, but with every right!!! Just look how we treat them.

If we as humans don't make a change and stand up for all the amazing creatures that we share this earth with. Then I believe slowly but surely all species will be gone. Then what? Who gave us the right to claim this earth. It is not ours. We simply are a small percentage of species that share it.

I have lost sleep and shed many tears. And when I cry its not just slow rolling tears its rolling rivers and I feel this massive weight on my chest and I can't breath. Especially when these tears are brought on by my own species.

So instead of doing nothing I chose to stand up and try my best to make a small difference. If you are not like me then atleast you can support me. PLEASE donate. HELP!! me get to Taiji. By you helping me means your making a difference.

My heart is Heavy

I really don't have a whole lot to say other then I am so sad. The fisherman just murdered 50-70 bottle nose and risso dolphins just moments ago. I will start begging if i have to. Please help me reach my goal... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

My heart is aching

I woke up from a very restless nights sleep with and extremely heavy heart. This morning in Japan 50-70 bottle nose and risso dolphins have been captured in the cove. Not 1 pod but 2 pods and 2 different species of dolphin. Including 15 babies and there mothers. The last time they captured dolphins they murdered them with in 3 hours of capture. Which is very weird. Normally they are kept in the nets for 1 day and the trainers come a pick which ones they think are good for show. I guess they were feeling the pressure of the world now knowing. People around the world are bombarding the Japanese Embassies with phone calls. I think its helping! I made the phone call, Have you? I have a list of the embassies on my previous post.

I feel like I could sit here and write a never ending blog about this. I am Sad, Angry and at a loss on why these men do this. There is know reason. It is not a cultural tradition. Killing dolphins did not start until the 70's. There is extremely high levels of mercury in there meat. These creatures are extremely intelligent, Have been known to save human lives and are a huge part of our Eco-system. We are the only ones that can stop this. I will continue to do my best. Please make a call, write a letter and DONATE so that I can make a Difference..

What can I do..

The past few days has been peaceful in Taiji. The weather is bad and there has been no dolphins in The Cove. But it only can last so long. The only way these fisherman are going to stop is for the laws to change. The more pressure the Japanese Government feel from the world. The more likely they will change the law.

I know there are so many people in this world that don't agree with what is going on there, yet they watch and read updates and still turn a def ear. I also know that a lot of these people wish they could do something to help, but don't know how. Everyone seems to ask "What can I do". Well the answer is simple. Not everyone can make a trip to Taiji or even donate money, but you can write letters. You can make a phone call to the Japanese embassy. You can spread the word. You also can support Anti-Whaling day by peacefully protesting in front of the nearest Japanese Embassy on November 5th.

Send a Mass email to all Embassies

Realistic

To some people this Journey and Goal of mine may be unrealistic, But to me its not.
Remember when your parents told you that you can achieve anything you set your mind to. Well I believe that and I have never been more determined in my life. I am passionate about so many things, but for some reason this has struck me. I just can't sit around reading and watching everything that happens and not do anything.

To me humans are the pests of this beautiful earth we live on. So if we don't start making changes now our children have NO future. If our oceans die (and they will at this rate) so will all species.

I want to share 2 videos one that is positive and shows how magnificent these creatures.

and one that shows just how horrible these slaughters are.

Lolita- her life

This should not be happening. But it does. these amazing sea creatures forced to live a life of captivity. Please do not go to these shows. It just supports what is so morally wrong. If you want to see wild whales and Dolphins take a cruise and see them in there natural habitat. After all that is where they are the most beautiful.

My Mind is Constantly Going

I can't seem to slow down. I wake up thinking about this and I go to bed dreaming about it. What more can I do to help this issue? Well I come to terms that I can't do much more other then spread the word about what is happening there. Richard O'barry says the best way to go about this is to just put pressure on Japans government. Cutting nets and breaking the law will not help this situation, and if you know me I tend to have a temper and I speak my mind a little to much. So when I get to Japan I will have to control all of my emotions. My sister in law told my husband that maybe he should start a blog to help raise money for my release HA HA.
But I have made a vow that I can't go there thinking I can stop this in a weeks time. I will do my best, I will be polite and I will Not BREAK THE LAW..

The more people that are there to guard the Cove, The more pressure these fisherman will feel. The fisherman say they are keeping Culture and Tradition alive, and they want there children to have a job. Well My question is this. If this is a huge part of your culture why don't most people in Japan know about this? Why Hide what your doing under tarps and in a cove where people cannot see you? They know what there doing is shameful. The are nothing but cowards and heartless @#$%. Shame on these fisherman and shame on the Japanese Government who help hide this horrible thing.

I would just like to Thank a few of these people who are determined to stop this and have already made a huge Impact.

Richard O'barry- was first recognized in the 1960s for capturing and training the five dolphins that were used in the well-known TV series Flipper. Soon after, Kathy, one of the Flipper dolphins, died[2], according to O'Barry, while in his arms in what he believed was a suicide, he made a radical transition from training dolphins in captivity to assertively combating the captivity industry. O'Barry was featured in The Cove, a film that uses covert techniques to expose the yearly dolphin drive hunting that goes on in Taiji, Japan.

You can read Rics blog at www.savejapandolphins.org

Scott and Elora West- These 2 wonderful people are Father and Daughter and have been at the Cove since the beginning of September. They have documented every thing that has happened in the cove so far this year. Scott is a member of SSCS (Sea Shepherd conservation society) His daughter Elora is 16 and has joined him in Taiji. She started this as a class project and has done a wonderful job documenting everything by video and photos.

You can read Scotts blog at www.seashepherd.org/dolphins/cove-guardian-reports/

and Eloras at eloramalama.wordpress.com/

There are so many more people that have joined Scott and Elora at the cove this last month. Thank you to everyone who makes an effort whether it be by making phone calls to Japans embassy, spreading the word or planning a trip to be a cove guardian. Every effort helps.

A little about me and why I am doing this.

Hello My name is LeAnn. I am a Mommy to 3 year old triplets and love every minute of it. I have been married for 4 years to a man who supports anything and everything I choose to do in life. My husband and I always joke that I will teach our children they can save the world and he will teach them to be realistic. The way I see it if everyone thought they could save the world and tried to make a difference we would all be living in a better world. Being a stay at home mom limits what I can do, but I like to think what little I do does make a difference.

About a month ago I sat down with my Mom and decided to watch The Cove. Little did I know that decision has change my life. I am more determined then ever to make a difference in this horrific slaughter that happens every year in Taiji, Japan. I have spent the last month reading every blog, news story and watching every video I can to educate myself better on this issue. My heart was aching knowing that I was not there to be a Cove guardian and help document everything I could to help spread the word of what happens there. Just yesterday I was reading about the 14 dolphins that were just murdered there, The 6 very young dolphins that were let go and the 2 dolphins that were taken to live a life of captivity. And that is what made me ask myself. Why can't I go to Taiji next year to help stop this? Nothing was my answer. I have a very supportive family. I have Great Friends. And I know there are thousands of people who feel the same way I do that will help me reach my goal.

So here it is, My Goal:
I want to spend a week in Taiji, Japan being a cove guardian. I plan to do this in September 2011. I have less then a year to raise $5000.00. I can't do this with out the help of other compassionate people. SO PLEASE DONATE even if its just 1.00 anything helps. I am a middle class citizen. I am not rich and cannot afford this on my own. My Mom plans on taking this journey with me. It will not be cheap,But I am willing to do whatever it takes to achieve this. So please pass my blog on to anyone you know. Spread the word about what happens in Taiji. WATCH The Cove!

My promise:
I promise to use every penny donated, to help stop this horrific slaughter. If I do not reach my goal of 5000 every penny will be donated to Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.
5000 dollars is what I estimate this journey will cost us. What ever money is not used for this trip will also be donated to Sea Shepherd Conservation Society
